Naib Tehsildar Conducts Petrol Pump Inspections in Shopian Amid Complaints On the directions of Tehsildar Shopian acting on complaints regarding the lack of mandatory customer facilities at petrol pumps, a team of officials led by Naib Tehsildar Shopian Mr. Sajad Wani, along with other revenue department officials, conducted surprise inspections at various fuel stations across Shopian town. The inspections were aimed at ensuring compliance with government-mandated guidelines that require petrol pumps to provide free air, drinking water, functional toilets, and other basic amenities to the public.During the inspection, many petrol pumps were found lacking these essential facilities, raising concerns about the violation of public service standards. The complaints had been mounting from locals, who pointed out the inconvenience caused due to the absence of these amenities.Several petrol pumps failed to provide free air for vehicles, a basic service mandated by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH).Drinking water facilities were either non-existent or poorly maintained at many locations.Toilet facilities, a critical amenity for travelers, were unavailable at a majority of the inspected petrol pumps.Display boards providing information about available services and emergency contact details were missing in some places.The Naib Tehsildar expressed serious concern over the lapses, emphasizing that these facilities are not optional but mandatory as per government regulations. The officials issued a one-week ultimatum to the defaulters, instructing them to install the required amenities without fail.“The public deserves access to these essential facilities at petrol pumps, and it is the responsibility of the operators to ensure compliance. We will not tolerate any negligence in this regard,” Tehsildar Shopian Anjum Khan (JKAS) stated.Petrol pump owners who fail to adhere to the directives within the stipulated timeframe have been warned of strict action. This includes the initiation of proceedings for the seizure of their operations under the relevant provisions of the Petroleum Rules, 2002, and the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas guidelines.The inspection drive has been widely appreciated by residents of Shopian, who have long been demanding these basic amenities at fuel stations. Many expressed hope that such inspections will be carried out regularly to ensure sustained compliance.The District Administration has assured the public that follow-up inspections will be conducted after the one-week deadline to verify compliance.This move marks a significant step towards improving public facilities in Shopian town, ensuring that citizens' rights are upheld at all service points.
