Age is no barrier when there is a burning desire to achieve—anything and same has proven by 85-year-old Gulam Ahmad Mir of Shopian, who has emerged as an impressive entrepreneur with four successful farms in the Navpora village of Shopian district. Despite his age, Mir has achieved remarkable success across multiple agricultural ventures, proving that with hard work and determination, it’s possible to overcome any obstacle.

Gulam Ahmad Mir has set up a trout fish farm, poultry unit, aquaculture, and a high-density apple orchard on purchased land in Navpora. Recalling his journey, Mir shared how, back in the early 1980s, he introduced horticulture to the village, which had previously been dominated by barren and paddy fields. His vision transformed Navpora, inspiring many locals to convert their agricultural land into horticulture for better profits.

Although he could have rested on his laurels, Mir continued to expand his operations, later establishing farms for cows, fish, and poultry to make full use of the land throughout the year. His diverse ventures have become a testament to his forward-thinking approach and his refusal to let age limit his ambitions.
Mir was encouraged by the officials such as Dr. Dil Mohammad Makdoomi, Director of SKAUST, and Zaffar Afroz Badre, Head of KVK Shopian, who have called him a hero for his dedication. “He is an inspiration for the youth,” urging the younger generation to draw motivation from Mir's commitment and relentless work ethic.
Through his achievements, Gulam Ahmad Mir has proven that with vision, honesty, and dedication, one can achieve extraordinary goals at any age. He hopes that his example will encourage younger generations to pursue their dreams with vigor, regardless of the challenges.
