The Jammu & Kashmir Police in Keller launched a special drive on Monday along the Keller-Zarwoora Road in Shopian district, South Kashmir, aimed at reducing road accidents.
SHO Keller Shabroz Ahmad supervised the initiative, which focused on cracking down on traffic violations such as two-wheelers riding without helmets, overloading, rash driving, and stunt biking. During the drive, many offenders were booked under various sections of the Motor Vehicles Act. Drivers were counseled on the spot and advised to adhere to standard operating procedures for safe driving.
Vehicle operators were reminded to drive within speed limits, avoid overloading, and refrain from rash and stunt driving to protect lives. In light of recent fatal bike accidents, SHO Keller urged parents not to allow their children to drive without a license. He emphasized that those with valid licenses must wear helmets and avoid reckless driving.
The general public plays a crucial role in preventing accidents, SHO Keller said. The primary goal of the drive is to reduce the frequency of such incidents. The police are focusing on issues like overloading, lack of proper documentation, and High-Security Registration Plates (HSRP). Violators are being issued challans as a punitive measure.
A stunt biker, whose video had gone viral on social media, was also counseled by the SHO. He was warned about the dangers of stunt driving and the risks to both bikers and pedestrians. After the counseling, the offender pledged not to repeat such dangerous stunts and appealed to others to avoid similar activities. He was also issued a challan under relevant sections of the Motor Vehicles Act.
