Srinagar on 21st of August, 2024 SKUAST Kashmir; being Cluster Based Business Organisation for the formation and promotion of Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) in J&K and Ladakh UT to Implementing Agency - National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC) Govt. of India, conducted many plantation events  at various places and KVKs  of Kashmir valley. The main event was held at Directorate of Extension, Shalimar in coordination with Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare- district Ganderbal training centre in which more than 80 farmers along with the officers of line departments and scientists of the varsity participated. The responsibility of chief guest at the function was shouldered by Professor Dil Mohammad Makhdoomi, Director Extension / Education, SKUAST-K
At the outset, he briefed the audience regarding the importance of planting trees and campaign slogan “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam”. He elaborated that it is a movement that aims to mobilise every citizen of India in general and the people of UT of J&K in particular to plant a tree as a token of love to their mother and a small measure against climate change. He emphasized on the need to raise awareness about environmental conservation and foster collective action towards a greener, more sustainable future and bio-economy. He deliberated and devolved how by following Good Agricultural Practices (GAPs); a small and marginal farmer can also contribute to minimize the effects of climate change. Discovery and innovation in climate resilient soil, insect-pest and disease management, development of climate resilient seeds and varieties and farming systems were mentioned by him as saviours of farming community and the drivers of sustainable bio-economy during present and future times. He also highlighted the critical role played by the University and KVKs in safeguarding the livelihood of people especially farmers by developing, validating and disseminating climate resilient practices and technologies. 
The plantation event at KVK Anantnag was presided over by Dr Istiyak A Khan Head KVK Anantnag in which the farmers and members of the FPOs of “The Kashmir Valley Walnut Producers Cooperative Ltd” – Shangus, “The Kashmir Valley Vegetable Producers Cooperative Ltd”, Achabal, “The shopian Apple Farmers’ Cooperative Ltd”., Keller and “The Shehjar Organic Honey Cooperative Ltd”, Tral participated and planted saplings to commemorate and celebrate the global campaign of land restoration.  
At the conclusion of the program at Shalimar, a sampling of tulip tree was planted at the lawn of Directorate of Extension, Shalimar by the chief guest Prof Dil Mohammad Makhdoomi in presence of the farmers, scientists and officers of the line department to strengthen and promote the campaign “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam”
